Just A Note

It’s the last day of 2007. The end of another year has made it’s presence known with many preparing for a night of fun and celebrations. I want to take this opportunity to request that each person heading out to remember that safety should be first. Please hand over the keys and call a cab if you’ve had too much to drink. While it is the end of one year, let’s be sure to start the beginning of the new on a healthy (possibly hung over) note.

Happy New Year! I’ll see you in the next!

Near and Far – News I had to share

Crankerous Customer leaves Waitress a Surprising Tip

In Texas, one young woman’s ability to contend with a cranky customer for seven years resulted in her being included in an 89 year olds will. He left her one large tip, equating to $50,000 and a 2000 Buick. That’s dedication!

Housing Issues

The price of houses has fallen to the lowest level in twelve years according to this article.  It’s a grim sight for those looking to sell, great one for those looking to buy.

Holiday Fun

Or madness, depending on ones perspective.  For us, it was a fun time, with a few hectic moments in between.  Santa made his jolly appearance and left a loot to be had!  Toys galore filled the house as wrapping was quickly strewn and boxes flew.  The standard unwrapping of presents began and ended all within thirty minutes.  That’s no small feat when there were 50 presents wrapped beneath the tree.

The cache included a wagon, Buzz Lightyear,  Woody, a V smile and games, puzzles and convenient storage case, Four Arms, Accelerate, Omitrix watch, Ben 10 Season 1 DVD, clothes, pajamas, robe, coat, truck, Spiderman, Spiderman box/man set, camera, view finder, Mr Potato Head, Playdoh, Aqua Doodle, magna doodle and much much more.

With a loot the size of Ft. Knox for my three year old son, it’s been decided that he will be moving from a full-sized bed to a twin bed soon.  The space in his room has shrunk considerably with all the new additions.

Soon enough life will be back in order.  Once prized toys will slowly meet their demise within my son’s possession and they will find their way out the door and onto a graveyard of their own.  As that time approaches, we’ll find ourselves nearing his fourth birthday that will bring with it a bike and many t-ball accessories.  This boy has plans ahead of him this summer, albeit he’s unaware…

There’s a blog in the making

And I can’t help but tell you about it!  I’m building a Cheyenne, WY blog for everyone!  I’ve struggled with the lack of “to-do” for the average person in this town and I’ve been blessed to come across many things to do that I can’t help but share!  Soon, very soon, I’ll divulge the link.

Keep your eyes peeled!

Happy Holidays!

Tonight marked my final night at work before a much needed mini-vacation.  It’s been a long few weeks working six days a week, with many doubles, and that time away from my family will finally pay off.  I won’t be returning to work again until Thursday.  HOORAY!

I have fourteen presents left to wrap.  Santa gifts are tucked away, hiding under my bed or in the back of one vehicle.  Monday night will prove to be quite interesting I’m assuming as we must assemble a wagon, which is one of the prized gifts requested from Santa.  The wagon, however, will make displaying Santa’s gifts quite easy, contained and quite visible.

Christmas Day we will be venturing out for a family gift exchange and dinner.  I’ve purchased two bottles of wine for the occasion.  Campanile Pino Grisio and Black Opal Shiraz.   The Pino Grisio is quite light with a mild sweetness.  It almost seems lighter than water.  The Shiraz, however, has quite a bold taste.  The acidic fruit flavor cleanses the palate between bites of food, allowing for full flavor to be experienced with each bite.  It’s quite amazing how wine works with food.

There are only three rooms needing tidied up before Christmas now.  Fortunately, my son has been more than willing to prepare the house for Santa’s big arrival.  Cleaning has been a top priority.  It’s great to have all the help with cleaning!  Such a wonderful present for mom!

End of the Year Fiscals

At the end of each year, I go through and plan my budget for the new year.  I’ve been engrossed in this process over the past few days.  It’s definitely been a challenge.

Although life has had some unexpected occurrences, which caused a great upheaval a few months ago, next year is promising to be much better.  I’m thrilled to see just where we’ll be standing this time 2008.

I’ve found a few ways to cut costs on certain expenditures and increase my savings.  I’m also going to eliminate one habit that cuts into funds dramatically.  It’s going to be a challenge, but it will definitely be worth it in the end.  I’m looking forward to a few things this year that will be easily affordable by sticking to this budget.

  • A new living room suite (I’ve never purchased this NEW before)
  • A new bedroom suite (Even as a child, I never had a complete bedroom set before!)
  • A laptop capable of everything I could need for a few years at least
  • Photography equipment
  • Eliminating the bulk of my debt
  • Purchase a new vehicle

Following this plan will enable me to buy a house in 2009.  I’m thoroughly excited about this given the crazy times as of late.

Tagged…

I’m not much for playing tag. I’ve done one other meme tag in the past, though I’ve been tagged more times than I care to mention. 1. I’ve always been one of those people who discards the about you/about me emails that friends with too much time to spare send my way.

Erika tagged me because of my “Idea” post, hence the obligation to respond. The goal of this is to state five (5) random/strange things about oneself. You then must tag five (5) people to cause brain-wracking for them as well.

2. I still have yet to finish painting my place, that’s in desperate need and it won’t get finished until new furniture has been ordered, allowing for everything to be removed and replaced.

3. I’m a ‘net junkie. I often check to see where my blog sits in Google’s page rank… currently I’m on page 4!

4. I love to play with my son. Even as I’m sitting here wracking my brain trying to come up with more things, I’m making him fly and ride the roller coaster on my legs.

5. Mornings in my home include singing about monkeys. Want to see???

So now the most challenging task… Tagging people.

First and foremost, there are many that I would love to tag, but I’m going to have to tag three-in-one. I’m not cheating, but I’d like to know more about each of the writers on this blog. So for April, Carter-Ann and the 302 gang, you’re up! I’ll be swinging by to check up on you!! :)

Second is an innovative-green-writing-mom-Karen (or Bob, depending on the history) at her latest and most awesome blog to date: Be The Change!

This couldn’t be a tag-all if I didn’t include Victomology Blogger, Polly Kahl. Recovery Reconnaissance, you’re up!

In the number four spot is b5’s blogger, Dinsa Sachan with Six and Out!

Last, but not least, a woman with one GREEN heart (though she’ll kick my bum for tagging her as she doesn’t like tags) is Jennifer Chait at b5’s Tree Hugging Family.

2008: A Year of Change

Be the Change, to be exact.

Karen at Be The Change 2008 has started her blog a month early to accumulate ideas for change.  The objective is to change your own corner of the world, thus creating change throughout the world.

What can you do to inspire a positive change in your own home, neighborhood, city, state, country or world?

I have made a commitment to donating to Habitat for Humanity in a post I made recently.  Is that all I’m doing?  No.

I’ve found myself drawn to helping the Earth.  I’m living in a more green manner.  I’ve invested in Compact Screw In Bulbs and have changed over the lights in my home to these.  I’m using less energy and saving the world one bulb at a time!

I’m teaching my son about eliminating unnecessary items from one’s life.  Last week we went through is room and cleaned out all the clutter.   While some toys were unable to be salvaged and donated, what was capable of finding a new home was offered as donation, also helping a good organization.   There are many lessons learned through that process.

We are using vehicles with decent gas mileage, but looking at a new investment in a hybrid car for better efficiency.   This isn’t going to be something we run out and tackle this year, as we want to ensure we aren’t paying someone else money to have a car (buy in full, with cash and lower the overall cost.)

Slowly, we are working on eliminating fast food from our diets.  While that isn’t seemingly a big change, it is one that will help our overall health and increase the income in our pockets, allowing for those funds to be used more efficiently, too.

So what are your ideas?  Have you considered what changes you want to implement in your neck of the woods?
