Music that Sings!
There are songs that we hear as we age that make an impact on our lives. This is one that I’ll never forget hearing for the first time in the early 90’s.
Amy Grant – Grown Up Christmas List
Do you remember me?
I sat upon your knee.
I wrote to you with childhood fantasies.
Well, I’m all grown up now,
But I still need help somehow.
I’m not a child, but my heart still can dream.So, here’s my lifelong wish;
My grown-up Christmas list.
Not for myself, but for a world in need.No more lives torn apart,
And wars would never start,
And time would heal all hearts.
Everyone would have a friend,
And right would always win,
And love would never end…
This is my grown-up Christmas list.As children we believed
The grandest sight to see
Was something lovely wrapped beneath the tree.
Well heaven surely knows
That packages and bows
Can never heal a hurting human soul.No more lives torn apart,
And wars would never start,
And time would heal all hearts.
Everyone would have a friend,
And right would always win,
And love would never end…
This is my grown-up Christmas list. What is this illusion called the innocence of youth?
Maybe only in our blind belief can we ever find the truth! There’d be…
No more lives torn apart,
And wars would never start,
And time would heal all hearts.
Everyone would have a friend,
And right would always win,
And love would never end…
This is my grown-up Christmas list. This is my only lifelong wish…
This is my Grown-up Christmas List.
Another that brings tears to my eyes…
Kenny Rogers with Wynonna Judd – Mary Did You Know
Mary, did you know
that your baby boy will one day walk on water?Mary, did you know
that your baby boy will save our sons and daughters?Did you know,
that your baby boy has come to make you new?
This child that you’ve delivered,
will soon deliver you.Mary, did you know
that your baby boy will give sight to a blind man?Mary, did you know
your baby boy will calm a storm with his hand?Did you know,
that your baby boy has walked where angels trod?
When you kiss your little baby,
you’ve kissed the face of God.The blind will see
The deaf will hear
The dead will live again.
The lame will leap
The dumb will speak
The praises of The Lamb.Mary, did you know
that your baby boy is Lord of all creation?Mary, did you know
that your baby boy will one day rule the nations?Did you know,
that your baby boy is heaven’s perfect lamb?
This sleeping child you’re holding, is the great I AM.
It’s not often that I share videos or lyrics to music, especially when they are more spiritual in nature. However, being this holiday season, I can’t help but share a piece of myself and the music that truly warms my soul. These two songs I’ve actually spoken about on a blog I frequent recently. It was great to see that others appreciate the same music in their lives, as well.
There are two songs by Skip Ewing that I am fond of, to say the least.
He was her man, she was his wife
And late one winter night
He knelt by her
As she gave birth
But it wasn’t his child,
It wasn’t his childYet still he took him as his own
And as he watched him grow
It brought him joy
But it wasn’t his child
It wasn’t his childBut like a father he was strong and kind
And I believe he did his best
It wasn’t easy for him
But he did all could
His son was different from the rest
It wasn’t his child
It wasn’t his childAnd when the boy became a man
He took his fathers hand
And soon the world
Would all know why
It wasn’t his child
It wasn’t his childBut like a father he was strong and kind
And I believe he did his best
It wasn’t easy for him
But he did all could
He grew up with his hands in wood
And he died with his hands in wood
He was gods child,
He was gods childHe was her man
She was his wife
And late one night
He knelt by her
As she gave birth
But it wasn’t his child
It was gods child
Finally the last song I have to share although I don’t have a video or music to accompany.
I was playin’ Santa Claus downtown on Christmas Eve
When a little girl of three or four climbed up onto my knee
I could tell she had a Christmas Wish behind those eyes of blue
So I asked her what’s your name, and what can Santa git for you
She said my name is Christmas Carol, I was born on Christmas Day
I don’t know who my daddy is, and mommy’s gone away.
All I want for Christmas is someone to take me home.Does anybody want a Christmas Carol of their own
Well all I could say was “Santa will do the best he could”
And I set her down and told her “now to remember to be good”
She said I will then walked away, turned and waved goodbye
And I’m glad she wasn’t close enough to see ole Santa CryShe said my name is Christmas Carol, I was born on Christmas Day
I don’t know who my daddy is, and mommy’s gone away.
All I want for Christmas is someone to take me home.Does anybody want a Christmas Carol of their own.
Early Christmas morning I got up and dialed the phone
I made a few arrangements at the County Children’s home
And they told me it would be alright to pick her up today
Now my little Christmas Carol wont ever have to sayMy name is Christmas Carol, I was born on Christmas Day
I don’t know who my daddy is, and mommy’s gone away.
All I want for Christmas is someone to take me home.
Does anybody want a Christmas Carol of their own.Well Merry Christmas Carol, I love you, Welcome Home.
