Thursday Ramblings

I’ve been busily making collages around my work schedule. A daunting task, not for the lack of enjoyment in placing images within a portrait for printing but as my computer issues have reared their ugly head.

Let’s face it, I’m in desperate need of a new computer. That won’t be something accomplished for a few more months. In the mean time, I’m stuck in reboot heck. I can manage to get about 8 collages in before it’s time for a break – for the machine, not me! Hopefully this Christmas will bring with it a few upgrades for my four-year-old desk top that will bide my time until a new machine can be ordered – that has Windows XP!

As always, we work through the new Window’s systems and find their benefits and downfalls. Vista, however, is proving to be nothing more than a pain, where I’m sitting. Most of the programs I use are not compatible with Vista. I’m not willing to give up my programs, therefore, I’m not willing to give up XP, either. Dell appears to be the best choice for my new computer. They will load XP upon request. “Request, Request!”

On the thought of Christmas, my tree is up! Actually, it has been up since Sunday. There are now presents under the tree as well. It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas…

Christmas Tree

Tree Two

It’s a simple tree, really. Pine cones dusted in glitter, candy canes and tinsel. It was a great deal of fun to put together, however.

Friday, following Thanksgiving, my son and I took pine cones and rolled them in Elmer’s glue and then rolled them in glitter for the “dusted” look. On Sunday, after they were fully dry, ribbons were attached and then hung. I could have gone completely traditional with popcorn strings too, but I might have to run my three-year-old off before he ate it all…

It’s been a great week here. We’ve had wonderful family time filled with movies, crafts and playing. I couldn’t ask for a better way to spend the holiday season.

That’s great that you have your tree up already. I spent last night on the roof of my house hanging off the edge putting nails in for hanging Christmas lights. This will be our first real Christmas in our new house and I wanted the boys to have lights to see.
Did I mention I hate heights. I get anxious and scared with heights so I really did not enjoy being 20-30 feet up in the air hanging over the edge of my roof but I was determined to get it done.
I am proud to say that all the nails are in place and by the weekend we should have lights shining on our little section of the neighborhood. I have a totally renewed appreciation for the holiday seasons now that I have two children to share them with.

I fear heights too! I couldn’t ever, in a million years, climb on the roof and be that near the edge. Kudos to you!!

This is the first year in many years I’ve thoroughly enjoyed the holiday season and have been game for all the fun and excitement. Last year we were moving and didn’t even manage to get a tree up. I would have been thrilled to have the tree up in September, but the rest of my family wasn’t so keen on that idea. I did well to wait until after Thanksgiving.

Children add so much more to Christmas. I never thought in a million years I would find so much enjoyment by staying up until all hours of the morning, building toys and setting everything up just right for the morning festivities. Stockings hung and filled with care, presents carefully wrapped and with that, donating and giving to a special angel or two each year from our family means so much more.

I guess that’s where we grow up and grow young all at the same time.

Love those big pine cones, Mysti, where did you find them? I love a traditional tree. Yours came out beautifully. I am recovering from hip surgery but hope to be able to start decorating next week. I usually do it Thanksgiving weekend so this feels very late this year. Can’t wait – the lights and smells take me back to childhood memories and make me so happy! Enjoy!

I’m glad to see you are up and mobile, or at least partially, Polly. You’ve been in my thoughts and prayers!!

The pine cones came from the 40-60 foot pine trees we have just up the street. I frequently check the craft stores to see if there are any good deals on pine cones there and in the event that I don’t have enough to carry through to the following year have found that they do generally carry them during the holidays. My favorite part about collecting them, however, are the memories tied into each cone of time well spent with my family. It makes the tree that much more warm and heartfelt.

I like the big pine cones too. I also love white lights on a tree. Cedar want’s colored though so I have to do color because he’s so much more into the holiday then I ever can be. Lame about your computer. I agree though, Vista seems so over hyped. I love XP — and it does work with all my programs so… I wonder if they’ll can vista? Ok, wanted to see the blog. I hope this one is here to stay — I get confused. Is it safe to add this one to my blogroll?

  6. Mysti replied:

This one is definitely here to stay. This is actually a compilation blog. I pulled them all together in this one. :)

We’ve had a great deal of fun doing our Christmas tree this year. I need to get busy with wrapping gifts and get them under the tree though. I’ve been working way too many hours as of late.

  7. Jennifer replied:

You already have your gifts! You’re ahead of me so don’t feel too bad.

I still have a bit more shopping to tackle. Thankfully I don’t have much though. I’m actually behind schedule this year. I am normally completely finished with shopping and have everything wrapped, less what would be still making it’s way here from typical companies I order from. Oh well, next year will be better. :)
