A Very Long Night

I finally had begun to drift off to sleep close to one this morning when I heard a pounding on the wall that startled me greatly.  I had already contended with Jaden waking after a frightening dream.  I got out of bed and heard those same wall sounds and stomping above my apartment.  I gathered Jaden and got him comfortable on the couch, where he drifted off to sleep when the yelling and screaming escalated.  The foul language was enough to send shivers down my spine.

It was about that time when I tried to wake Rob up and he didn’t budge.  I then decided to call the police.  I wasn’t about to walk into the middle of a domestic dispute.  I explained to dispatch what was going on.  There was still some yelling, but more thuds than anything.  All I could picture was someone being thrown around.

It took nearly 7 minutes for the officers to make their way here.  They did check out the apartment that was silent at that moment in time.  I opened the door, invited them in and explained to them again what I heard and why I called.  They did head back upstairs and made their way into the apartment.  I’m unsure what exchange they had with the upstairs tenants.

Had something horrific happened, there’s no way I could cope with the thought of not calling.  I hope that everyone who reads this takes a proactive stance when you see or hear something that is not “right.”
